Koululainen
magazine lay out
The client was Otava Media, a Finnish publishing house. The project involved designing an article for Koululainen, a children’s magazine. We created this whole summer issue together with other graphic design students. My personal concept was to create superheroes in space who also represented horoscope signs. To fit the summer theme, each character included a fun summer activity tip, inspired by the unique traits of their zodiac sign.
To make the concept interactive and engaging for children, I designed the characters as collectible cards. I created the storyline, text, characters, visual style, and layout entirely myself, combining visual storytelling and character design with inspiration drawn from fantasy literature, sci-fi, and anime.
The illustrations were created in Infinite Painter, while Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop were used for the layout and final visual design.

POSTER
Poster I created for the story I made and illustrated to this magazine.
Magazine layout
Character design
“My article was a twelve-page exploration of the zodiac, reimagined as space-themed superheroes.”
I created a collection of twelve original characters. Each hero represents one of the zodiac signs, drawing influence from that sign’s ruling planet, signature personality traits, and typical interests. By combining these astrological elements with a cosmic, sci-fi theme, I developed unique backstories for each character. Together, they form a unified universe in which every zodiac becomes its own distinct superhero.
Playcard design
I also designed twelve set of cards with zodiac sign charactersthat kids could print to make it more fun.
I created the storyline, text, characters, visual style, and layout entirely myself, combining visual storytelling and character design with inspiration drawn from fantasy literature, sci-fi, and anime.
